Kitefestival Callantsoog 2025 – Strandpaviljoen De Stern

The Callantsoog Kite Festival is the biggest festival in the Netherlands – and by extension, the entire Benelux. This year too, it was marked in bold and highlighted in neon in my calendar, because this is truly an event you don’t want to miss!

Friday, June 27, 2025

Friday started early, as I was expected at 10 AM by my friends from “Vliegeren is voor iedereen” (Kite Flying is for Everyone).

I only arrived around 10:30 AM, since I ran into some delays in Antwerp.

By 11 AM, we were on our way to our campsite: Duynpark het Zwanenwater.

I had to wait a bit before I could set up my tent, as a caravan still had to be parked in between.

After that, everything could be set up, and we were all ready for a fun weekend!

But not without a stop at De Stern for dinner.

I was going to write something like “after a wonderful night’s sleep…”, but unfortunately, my air mattress had a leak. So I had to get a new one at the local Blokker store.

Once that was sorted out, I could finally start kite flying.

On Day 1, I tried something new: a triangle setup with my aquarium theme.

Taikipus was the lifter, with Team Sushi below – the whales Pearl and Marlow, and the dolphins Lola and Snowflake.

In the morning, we were also visited by our favorite four-legged friend from the area – Benjamin.

The wind was a bit strong and unstable throughout the day, but we still managed to get quite a few kites in the air.

You can see many more of them below.

Back at the campsite, I finally got to install the new air mattress.

After a nice and cozy dinner with all the kiters at Zilte Zucht, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset — and then it was time for bed.

What I couldn’t do on Saturday, I could do today!

After a great night’s sleep and a delicious breakfast at the campsite restaurant De Heerlijkheid, we headed back to the beach.

The wind was a bit lighter than the day before, but much more stable — perfect for bringing out the big setups, including my aquarium again. This time, not on a triangle, but attached to the flowform line.

I didn’t just have one flowform in the sky — I had both of them, each with HQ tube tails.

And to the second line, I attached Sparky!

As the day went on, I even managed to get Yako up in the air.

The beach was absolutely packed as far as the eye could see, there were kites everywhere.

After an amazing weekend, it was sadly time to pack up.
But we look back on a very successful edition.

And are we coming back? Absolutely! See you next year!
