As per annual tradition, this year the RVD took place on the third weekend of August, and once again I helped with the setup.

The company I work for also sponsored the internet on the site this year.

Kites, hot air balloons, and Wi-Fi—what more could you want?

Tuesday, August 13 – Arrival at RVD

On Tuesday, we drove to Rijsbergen and set up the tent.

Of course, internet was a must. With Starlink at hand, I was able to surf at full speed again.

Wednesday, August 14 to Friday, August 16 – RVD Setup

There was a lot to do for the rest of the week.

This included setting up the internet. I had a helper on hand our one-day intern.

We also provided internet to the Taiki HQ tent through a wireless connection.

Tents, poles, streamers, and inflatable castles—everything went up in the air.

Throughout the week, we took some time to fly a (read: several) kite or two.

I also took some time to reattach all the LEDs on Sparky; many had come loose.

Saturday, August 17, 2024 – Daytime Activities

After a full week of setup, it was finally time for the event we had come for kite flying.

Though the day began with no wind…

We had to rely on our air pumps to inflate our line laundry.

Sparky, Yako, and the Taikoe herd were all present.

Our neighbors were also busy with their pumps.

Here’s a small photo impression of the rest of the day.

Saturday, August 17, 2024 – Evening Activities

After a bite to eat, it was time for the evening activities.

Just like last year, this edition also featured a hot air balloon spectacle.

This was followed by the lights evening with a night glow from some of the returning balloons.

A photo impression of the balloons and the lights evening can be found here.

After this spectacular event, it was time to clean up and head to the sleeping area of my tent.

Sunday, August 18, 2024

We started Sunday with a fun breakfast—spaghetti… a spaghetti of ropes that took me an hour to untangle.

After that hour, Yako was shining beautifully on the field again.

There was even some kite flying.

Not only by the Kite Flying is for Everyone team but also by other participants.

I even managed to enjoy it a bit myself and took some KAP (Kite Aerial Photography) photos.

At the end of the day, it was time to take everything down.

On Monday, we left for the next event.

Conclusion

It was another great festival, and I say: here’s to next year!
